WK hits Super KF!
Wednesday, 27 May 2009
The CIK-FIA World Cup resulted in great finals on the Suzuka circuit, with a rather unexpected finish in the top category, Super KF. This was the first ever major event appearance for Wildkart in the top level category as SPS team, our partner in Japan, made their début in the Super KF.

Created in 1991, the CIK-FIA Karting World Cup, traditionally held in Japan, was a special moment for WildKart. Compared to the previous two editions, the 2009 World Cup has gathered over twice as many entries in the top category! On one hand, most manufacturers were present and have decided to send to Japan their best drivers, and on the other, the regulations have been adjusted so that B licence-holders were eligible for the Super KF & KF1 categories, which has enabled more local drivers to enter. Japanese teams and drivers, as well as savouring the pleasure of rubbing shoulders with the European elite, clearly made it a point of honour to demonstrate their competitiveness and the excellent level of their national championship, the “All Japan Karting Championship”.

This was the first ever major event appearance for WildKart in the top level category, as SPS team, our partner in Japan, made their début in the Super KF. Wildkart Japan will participate in "All Japan KF1 Championship" this year, definitely the top category in Japan, with well experienced driver Hiroaki Watatani.

Watatani had a great start of the weekend as he qualified on 34th position. In qualifying heats he scored 18th and 12th place and that was good enough for 22nd starting position for the prefinals. But SPS driver had some bad luck in the prefinal race as he had to retire after 5 laps with broken drive chain. Watatani pushed hard at the start of the final race, but he crashed while forcing his way to the top of the field. He managed to restart, but his chances for a fantastic result were lost. At the end he scored 33th place. This was a great expirience for SPS team and WildKart as the chassis proved that it belongs to the top level of World karting.

In pole-position for the final, the 18-year old Belgian Yannick de Brabander showed he had the nerve to withstand the pressure from drivers such as Gary Catt, the Japan Champion Sasaki and Arnaud Kozlinski. De Bradander achieved his first major success in a CIK-FIA event and therefore adds his name to the list of results of this prestigious World Cup. Starting the final from the fifth row, Manuel Renaudie made a superb recovery, also setting the fastest lap time of the race, forcing Arnaud Kozlinski down to 3rd place with four laps to go.
